Alexandra was estranged from her husband Edward and was not in London when it fell. When she heard of the Fall, she put a lot of effort into getting into the palace and recovering her son, who was with the rest of the royal family.
(Note: this does not line up with the timeline of our world where Alexandra and Edward married in 1863, which would have been after the Fall in 1862; Prince Albert Victor was born in 1864, two years after the Fall. This implies that the point of divergence from the history of our world is actually before the Fall.)
