How to format text in the comments?[edit]
I can't find how to use bold or italic text when writing comments, but I've seen other users do it. Some even include links in their comments. How do you do it? - Phryne Amarantyne (talk) 22:33, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
- By using Wiki formatting! Comments use the same Mediawiki formatting as the pages themselves. Most other websites seem to invent some new, incompatible dialect of Markdown these days. This wiki's use of Templates also makes it harder to find examples of formatted text in the wild, unless you start poking around inside the templates themselves.
[[Link syntax for wiki pages]] <-- Prefer the article title, not the URL
''Italics'' <-- note that's two single quotes, not a double quote
'''Bold'''
The Editing Guide has a section on mediawiki syntax: Fallen London Wiki:How to edit the wiki#Editing_Pages. There are sub-sections on links and text formatting. You can also search the web for "Mediawiki formatting," or go straight to the source at mw:Help:Formatting.
