What is the future of the World Qualities bot?[edit]

The messagebox at the top of the Wiki about the World Qualities bot is still phrased as if it's a temporary situation. Do we believe it's still possible it could return from its visit to the boatman, or has it reached the far shores? If it's still possible to return, I'm willing to donate some programming effort keep it maintained. I've only heard "they say"-level rumors about the API endpoint getting shut down.

Conversely, if it's not coming back then I'm willing to spend some design time making manual updates more human-friendly than the current process that was designed for bots. I've seen several folks ask how they can personally help update WQs, I'd love to be able to give them an answer that doesn't need to have a paragraph on reading datetime formats.

From what I've heard, yeah, FBG patched a bug that the world quality bot was relying on. There's talk of making an extension that automatically crowdsources world qualities, but I'm not sure if that is being worked on, or if so, how long it will take, so it does seem to just be manual quality updates (with a few qualities that alan has set up a client-side bot to update, I believe) JmeJuniper (talk) 07:47, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
It's almost certainly not coming back, unfortunately. Designing a better update system would be quite worthwhile. Consider, also, that world qualities exposed in Requirements are far easier to automate (see: Estival and the rapidly updated world qualities) Alan (talk) 01:51, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
