How to unlock[edit]

Moon-Miser Herding is accessible as part of the Firmament storyline.

Access to Moon-Miser Herding is in Zenith, unlocked with Firmament 360 (the end of Chapter 3). The storylet The Gate of Misers begins this activity. After entering for the first time, the player will need to pass through it a few times before unlocking the payout mechanic.

Progress[edit]

Progress through the activity is done by drawing and playing cards. When first unlocking the activity, the player is limited to a hand size of 2. Every card will clear the hand and grant 1 level of Stations of the Herd, which acts as a progress tracker for the activity. There are 2 High Urgency cards associated to each level of Stations of the Herd, so the player will always initially see the same 2 cards on any given level. Once Stations of the Herd reaches 7, Come to your senses will autofire, ending the activity and awarding 1 x Latent Recollections.

Additional options are unlocked by playing specific actions on some cards, gaining 1 CP in one of three qualities per relevant option. Ending the activity with one of those qualities at level 2 will unlock another associated quality, as follows:

Note that ending the activity will reset Acclimating to Prolonged Inversion, Awakening to Miracle and Tasting Ichor, so the 3 CP required to unlock the associated qualities must be obtained in a single attempt. See the cards table below to see which cards can increase which qualities.

Having Seeing a new Frame of Reference, Hearing Chimes at Midnight and A Mouthful of Light will unlock new options on existing cards, each of which grants 1 CP of another new quality, Opening Another Eye. Similarly to before, ending the activity with Opening Another Eye at level 2 grants the final quality, Seeing More than Two Paths.

Having Seeing More than Two Paths raises your hand size for the activity to three, allowing new, non-High Urgency cards to be drawn. Most of these do nothing other than progressing the activity, although Moulting Hour awards a small amount of Shard of Glim. Three of the new cards, however, allow the player to cash out Latent Recollections. These are the gold-bordered cards Blood of the Stone, Fearful Symmetry, and Peal of Thunder. Playing any one of these cards will convert all your Latent Recollections into E 35 worth of items (although E 10 of this value is in items sellable for Stuivers) per recollection, as well as granting 1 CP of respectively Stone-Hearted (up to level 6), Salt-Veined (up to level 6), or Stormy-Eyed (up to level 5).

Cards[edit]

Since each amount of Stations of the Herd has exactly two High Urgency cards associated to it, the player will always draw the same 2 cards until unlocking the third card slot with Seeing More than Two Paths.

The standard frequency cards have no dependency on Stations of the Herd and all of them can be drawn at any time during the activity, with one exception: the gold-bordered cards Blood of the Stone, Fearful Symmetry and Peal of Thunder all require having Latent Recollections and cannot appear a second time if the player has already spent their Latent Recollections.

Recommendation[edit]

Part of the value for cashout items will be tied up in Stuivers, so take that into account when deciding which option to take. Fearful Symmetry offers the most direct payout in E Echoes. Peal of Thunder payout partly in Storm-Threnody, which can be sold at the Rat Market, upping its value considerably.
