Once you've experienced
Pilgrim's Dawn for the first time and the city has unlocked, you'll have the option to mosey through Pilgrim's Dawn with various different visitors.
General[edit]
Most moseys take five actions, tracked by
Progress through Pilgrim's Dawn:
- one to begin,
- one outside the city,
- two in the lower city (which can't be the same), and
- one in the upper city.
Each action during a mosey results in some payout of economy items and one of two types of observance:
Calloused Hands and
Pious Hearts. Each observance is worth 0.50, though they can only be cashed out under specific circumstances.
You'll also be able to choose who to travel with. Many visitors will have an observational "preference", determining how much they favour Hands or Hearts. If you're accompanied by a visitor who favours an observance, actions that gain it will give more observances and less economy items, with the EPA being marginally better. If you choose to join a pilgrimage of the Brazen Brigade, the carousel will be extended to include a payout action, letting you trade in all of your
Calloused Hands or
Pious Hearts. Notably, once the Brazen Brigade has been moseyed with, they won't be available again until Time, the Healer comes. The other visitors will remain available, though.
Visitors[edit]
By default, four visitors are unlocked: yourself, prospective citizens, society sightseers, and the Brazen Brigade. All but the first of these options require a small investment to travel with. There are also various other visitors, some FATE-locked and some not, who have the same effects as the default visitors, but without the initial cost.
| Default Visitors | Item needed (consumed) | Notes | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yourself | N/A | 1 | 1 | |
| A group of prospective citizens | 2 | 0 | ||
| A gaggle of society sightseers | 0 | 2 | ||
| The Brazen Brigade's pilgrimage | 1 | 1 | ||
| Exclusive Visitors | Item/quality needed (not consumed) | Notes | ||
| A seminar on Hinterland policing | 2 | 0 | ||
| A Benthic study into western religion | 0 | 2 | ||
| A hieratic field trip | 2 | 0 | FATE-locked | |
| Followers of the pipe and of the mandolin | 0 | 2 | FATE-locked | |
| A Terpsichorean troupe | 2 | 0 | FATE-locked | |
| A crew with dramatically extended shore leave | 0 | 2 | FATE-locked | |
| Agents of the Bazaar | 0 | 0 | FATE-locked |
Moseying[edit]
Once you've chosen your visitors, you'll set out on your mosey. Below is a table of the options available on each mosey. The rewards of each challenge are listed in threes, for when you have 0/1/2 of the relevant observational preference, respectively. Failure of a challenge offers the same amount of observances, but no economy rewards.
Finishing a mosey inclements your
Trips through Pilgrim's Dawn quality by 1. This has no effects, serving only as a tracker and vanity. Its final QLD is at 777, so get to work!
Payout[edit]
While travelling with the Brazen Brigade, reaching
Progress 5 will not end your mosey. Instead, you travel to the church, where your
Hands or
Hearts can be traded in for various rewards. Each type of observance can be traded in for one of two options, and only one option can be taken before the mosey ends.
Cashing in
Calloused Hands[edit]
Throw open the church's storerooms[edit]
- Half of your
Hands is converted into
Baskets of Rubbery Pies. - Three quarters of the remainder (three eighths of the total) becomes
Solacefruit. - And the rest (about one eighth) becomes
Jasmine Leaves.
This is the best option if you want to grind
Hinterland Scrip, as a majority of the outputs can be sold for it, directly or indirectly.
Inspire an Hour of Dance[edit]
- This option cashes your
Hands out entirely into
Correspondence Plaques. - It also gives a few CP of
Wounds while removing an equal amount of
Nightmares.
If you're aiming for
Plaques, moseying can actually be quite an effective source, with Take in the view of the city from below and Join the rose-scholars' work. Unfortunately the latter option gives
Hearts rather than
Hands, and there's no Plaque option for the lower city, so you do end up with some byproducts.
Cashing in
Pious Hearts[edit]
Piece together Burrow's theology[edit]
- With
Hearts 300 or more, one
Sky-Story is given. - Half of the remainder becomes
Verses of Counter-Creed. - Half again (in general, a quarter of the total) becomes
Apostate's Psalms. - And the rest (in general another quarter) becomes
Palimpsest Scraps.
This is the game's only repeatable source of
Sky-Stories (save for using
Lethean Tea-Leaves to repeatedly play through almost all of Bag a Legend! at 50 FATE apiece). Then again, Sky-Stories aren't actually very useful, and this action actually offers them at a slight loss, so if you're going for efficiency, you should cash out before you reach the 300
Hearts threshhold.
Turn your mind downwards[edit]
- Cashes out all of your
Hearts into
Emetic Revelations. - The rest (if your total wasn't a multiple of 25) becomes
Moon-Pearls.
This is an efficient source of
Revelations. They don't have that many notable uses, but they can also be converted into
Cryptic Clues for free, which are significantly more useful.
