subsection guides for distinction strategies

From Fallen London Wiki

ive been getting these myself and they can be quite a fun challenge. you have to draft a few times to get proper teams but they force you to be a bit creative.

the Pages distinction is imo the easiest. building up enough preparations to win with a Page can be done without much effort with a Queen and the Priest of Magpies is nice to have but your run isn't dead if he doesn't show up. the Page of Lures arguably prefers the Priest of Briars to Magpies if you have a choice, because he'll eat through your Preparations if you're not careful and there's no other legal sources for multiple Preparations in a single action.

Knights are a bit trickier because more than half of them are really support accomplices: Flames, Skin, Nobility, and Livers aren't great as your only DPS so if you grab one be sure to also grab one of Ribs, Talons, and Disintegrities. Queens are great but keep in mind no Knights or Pages give boons so the Fool isn't worth it. The Priest of Smiths is definitely helpful here but like with the Pages you can manage without him.

The lack of easy Knight preparations is the hardest part with King teams so particularly Roses isnt great here and Motley is extremely not worth using either. The King of Ambivalences gives an Ace so if you're lucky enough to draw Cod and a Priest it sets you up for a possible Audacities run where the King is actually a support character. For everyone else the most important character is the Priest of Briars by far becaude he's the only legal option that gives two Preparations. As far as I can tell Briars support and Ambivalent Audacity are the only real viable options for this Distinction.

the trick with Motley is to pick secondary accomplices that benefit from having a large number of junk cards. the best choice for this are the King of Roses, who can blast enemies with the ton of preparations you build up fishing for better cards, and the Fool of Audacities, because you're likely to pick up boons. For this build all Priests are useful since they interact with the Fool, the Knights of Livers, Skin, and Nobiltiy are useful for building Preparations, Knight of Flames can be helpful in mitigating Tolerance since it'll take you forever to actually be able to strike, and both Queens really help you manage the unwieldy deck. You want to avoid other Kings and all Pages as much as possible since they will only make mediocre progress and fail to buff Motley, Audacities, and Roses

The Distinction of Embalming is definitely the hardest. seasonal and fate equipment are pretty much necessary and it's also helpful if youre an exceptional friend to take a break after your first round to pick up a boon from the house of chimes. I got it with Roots/Skin/Cod and the Ace of Queens was super helpful in making it possible to meet KT checks. I suspect the easiest setups likely involve using the Fool of Audacities, Queen of Cod, and a Priest, but it involves a lot of RNG even just beyond the usual draft accomplices. you shoulr absolutely not try to get embalming and another mark at the same time though unless you have really synergistic tools of the trade/spouse/treasure and are very confident.
