Image uploads[edit]

Hi!

When uploading game files to the wiki, please select the

license from the "Licensing" dropdown that's shown in the uploader. (It's the last option and reads: "This is copyrighted, but use is permitted by the copyright holder".) I've edited the recent uploads, but might have missed some older ones.

Oh, gosh, sorry. Will do in the future!
Ashdenej (talk) 22:30, May 28, 2015 (UTC)
No worries, and thanks :-)

On an unrelated note: do you know how to convincingly fake an Action template? Or how to remove spurious tags from user pages that utilise templates, for that matter?
Ashdenej (talk) 03:50, June 7, 2015 (UTC)
I don't completely follow I'm afraid – what kind of spurious tags?
Achris (talk) 19:58, June 7, 2015 (UTC)
So my profile uses the typical Action template because for whatever reason I decided to make it look a little nicer - it also has a Rare Success as one of the fake results. Because I've used the wiki templates, it's automatically added the "Actions" and "Rare Success" categories to the page, and refuses to delete them. So: is it possible to put in an extra bit of code that says "no categories, please"?

Myself breaking pages left and right[edit]

Hi again,

seeing how I was responsible for two of the three broken pages you listed on your TODO, it was about time I looked into those matters. One of them was rather simple (the Prince's location; probably a template name typo), the badge required a few hours of digging through mediawiki's intestines and a whole batch of new lua templates (so-called Modules) - but it should be fixed now!

Thanks for bringing those to my attention, I probably wouldn't have realized the issues with redirect pages in Item_Action for several weeks, and now they're all gone (hopefully, anyways).

In the process I also tweaked Template:IL some more, but that one warrants an own blog post or something at this point…
Achris (talk) 15:43, May 30, 2015 (UTC)

Great, thanks so much! I am almost certain that there was another page I've come across that was completely broken, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. I guess maybe I'll try hitting "random page" for a while again?? That was how I found it in the first place.

I was really confused as to what could possibly be wrong with the Badge page, considering that it was identical to other (functional) item pages. Thanks again for fixing them!
Ashdenej (talk) 19:17, May 30, 2015 (UTC)
It was a somewhat tricky error, caused by the old template version only checking if a page with the item action title as name existed. If it did exist, the template assumed it had to be an action page for that action, and tried including it. In the case of Antique Constable's Badge however, the title (Polish your Antique Constable's Badge) was actually a redirect to the very item page itself, probably to make finding it through the search box easier. Then the page went on to include itself (the redirect target) and everything sled downhill from there.

The new version of Item_Action now also checks if the page in question – should it exist – has any actual content (as opposed to just redirecting) and will only include the action page if that is true.

I checked the other connection-raising items and these kinds of redirects are in place for most of them, so you probably stumbled upon one of the others that was similarly broken.

Item_Uses / Item_Sources templates[edit]

Hi,

I implemented the "magic" image inclusion from Template:IL for one of these templates (Template:Item Sources) as part of an effort to populate IL – it still relies on IL knowing about that item, and I was hoping this'd help expanding image mapping.

If you encounter missing image data from Item_Sources (the question mark icon shows), you have two options:

# despite what the template docs claim – if you pass |Item Name as parameter. Its presence leads to Item_Sources skipping the include-image-from-IL part, so you'll also have to provide the thumb image for that page (much like is done for Item_Uses)
# or you can help edit the image data by adding one module source line. Hopefully at some point I or somebody else manage to automate this… would save a lot of work, that's for sure!
Achris (talk) 00:07, May 31, 2015 (UTC)

Insofar as I understand it, that looks great!

On the other hand, I've tried adding in Surprise Attack Plan's associated image and it doesn't appear to have updated. Any ideas? Is it just taking a while to clear the cache, or something?

It's possible that I'm heavily misunderstanding what IL is intended to do, it should be noted!

Pages sometimes miss their templates or transclusions having been updated and will go out of sync, exactly. Here's a short explanation of how you can help them remember: purge articles

Item renames[edit]

Before this gets out of hand (and I don't have much time right now), please check Renamed Items. Thanks! :)
Achris (talk) 15:09, June 30, 2015 (UTC)

Oh, silly me. I figured that leaving redirects would be good enough to be getting on with!
Ashdenej (talk) 15:12, June 30, 2015 (UTC)
It usually would, but there's the whole matter of item sources and item uses. These are handled by categories, so have to be renamed in the respective source articles. And I can tell you from yesterday's mission cleaning up Glim and Surface Currency (feel free to check the recent changes), that's a task you really don't want to do manually =P

My bot is happy to slog along those large lists, but for now I commanded it to stay put because the names aren't final yet.
