Editing Infiltrating (Guide)

A guide to playing the great game in The Khanate, an activity for endgame players.

==Beginning steps==
To start the story chain allowing you access to Khan's Heart and the activities within, you need to have advanced the Railway as far as Balmoral, and have a fully upgraded a {{IL|Cabinet Noir}} (Level 4) there. You also require a [[Ship]].

A frequent [[A Letter from the Khanate|opportunity card]] will appear in London, giving you an {{IL|Intercepted Document}}. Deciphering this will give you a {{IL|Salt Steppe Atlas}} and {{IL|Acquaintance: The Reformer of Reputations}}. This will unlock a new storylet in Balmoral where you can attempt a {{IL|Zeefaring}} check to unlock the Khanate as a destination.

To continue the storyline, you will need a Cover Identity. The game gives detail on the requirements, but at minimum you need {{IL|Cover Identity: Ties}} and at least 5 in {{IL|Cover Identity: Nuance}}, {{IL|Cover Identity: Witnesses}}, or {{IL|Cover Identity: Credentials}}. These will influence your activities in Khan's Heart, as detailed later in this guide.

With a complete Identity, you can zail to the Khanate, a fairly long zee journey (as it is effectively one of the furthest points from London).

Once you reach the Khanate, you can speak to the Reformer of Reputations in a [[The Reformer of Reputations|storylet]] in the [[The Copper Quarter]]. After a short introductory segment, the option to create a Khaganian organisation as a front for great game operations and espionage becomes available. Completing it will give a {{IL|Khaganian Safe-Conduct}}, allowing you access to [[Khan's Heart]]. 

==Establishing a Front==
At the Reformer of Reputations storylet in the Copper Quarter of the Khanate, you convert a Cover Identity built in Balmoral to a front organisation for your activities in Khan's Heart.

The stats of your Cover Identity affect aspects of how your Front works, and therefore what opportunities for espionage are available.

===Obfuscation/Resilience===
Obfuscation and Resilience work together as a sort of health bar for your front.<br>
Obfuscation is the direct state of your front, if you run out, your front is destroyed and you must create a new one from a new Cover Identity.<br>
You lose Obfuscation by failing skill checks while progressing intrigues.<br>
The amount of {{IL|Taimen's Attention}}, a menace accumulated by failing checks or completing intrigues, increases the obfuscation you lose.<br>
Obfuscation can be regained up to 11 by spending {{IL|Well-Placed Pawn}} at the reformer of reputations<br>
The effect of resilience is TBD and can't be changed once your front is established.


===Methods/Weapon/Outward Appearance===
These qualities define the available options for progressing intrigues.<br>
You can choose one Method and one Weapon when creating a front, the options available depending on what Nuance, Witnesses, and Credentials your Cover Identity has.

==Intrigues==
The main activity and use of your Khanganian Front is pursuing Intrigues, started at the [[Begin an intrigue]] storylet.<br>
Each intrigue requires a certain amount of Infiltrating... which is gained through various storylets in Khan's Heart.<br>
Which options are available to you in a given storylet are determined by Methods, Weapon, and Outward Appearance.

Options and storylets available are also influenced by the {{IL|Current Time in the Khanate:}}<br>
Each action you complete in Khan's Heart increments the current time, shifting available storylets and actions.<br>
Once you have enough Infiltrating..., you complete the intrigue at [[The Progress of your (Intrigue Name)]] storylet.<br>
