The guide assumes at least level 5 in advanced skills as a baseline. Requirements beyond this will be listed at the top of the recipe.

Unless specifically stated, the following recipes do not have the skeletons declared as a Chimera. [[Declare your (Skeleton Type) a completed Chimera|Declaring it as a Chimera]] leads to a spike in {{IL|Skeleton: Self-Evident Implausibility|Appearance=Self-Evident Implausibility}} that can be troublesome and expensive to deal with.

==Amalgamy==
For these skeletons you will typically need {{IL|Helical Thighbone}}s, {{IL|Skull in Coral}} or alternatively {{IL|Amber-Crusted Fin}}s. The first two will require a {{IL|Shapeling Arts}} challenge, and all of the supplies take some time to gather.

===Knock-Kneed Newt===

Attaching Helical Thighbones is not automatic until you have {{IL|Shapeling Arts}} 10. If you fail one of the first three thighbones, there are ways to recover the recipe to target {{IL|Skeleton: Amalgamy|Short = y}} 6, and either {{IL|Skeleton: Antiquity|Short = y}} 3, or {{IL|Skeleton: Menace|Short = y}} 3, which will produce the same pay-out of 18. Failing the last roll will result in a pay-out of only 16, and failing two rolls is difficult to recover from.

===Lopsided Lizard===

* {{IL|Skull in Coral}}: Since the above ribcage is used, the Shapeling Arts roll for this should be trivial for characters that have maxed out their base skill.
* {{IL|Helical Thighbone|2 x}}s: You may have to begin with these, if your character cannot accumulate up to 10 {{IL|Shapeling Arts}}. What you use next depends on the outcome of these rolls.
**Both failures: {{IL|Helical Thighbone|1 x}} and then, {{IL|Unidentified Thigh Bone|1 x}} or a tentacle, thus leading to a lower Amalgamy rating.

===Caducean Raptor===

The limbs to be used depend on the outcomes of the installation of the skull and tail. If both are successes:

* {{IL|Helical Thighbone|4 x}}s: You have no other choices, really; thus far, these are the limbs that can give up to 2 points of the pertinent qualities. This will bring the multiple of the secondary qualities to at least 20, if you have been having really awful luck with the rolls.

If either is a failure, i.e. you have 5 levels of Menace, then go for 7 levels of Amalgamy with these:

This is a skeleton made with the intention of having maximized {{IL|Skeleton: Amalgamy|Short = y}}, without having to resort to a {{IL|Skeleton with Seven Necks}}, in order to sell to the {{IL|Sell to the Tentacled Entrepreneur (Skeleton)|Appearance=Tentacled Entrepreneur|Image=tentacledentrepreneur.png}}. This will require {{IL|Shapeling Arts}} challenges, so train this skill first. 
* {{IL|Flourishing Ribcage}}
* {{IL|Skull in Coral|1 x}}: {{IL|Shapeling Arts}} -2 challenge
* {{IL|Carved Ball of Stygian Ivory|1 x}} To occupy the second neck without adding a skull, which would prevent you from declaring the skeleton an Insect.
* {{IL|Helical Thighbone|4 x}}: Unless you failed the challenge for the Skull, you should try to fail exactly one of these rolls. If you failed the skull, try to fail none of them.
* {{IL|Unidentified Thigh Bone|2 x}}: If you have failed 2 rolls so far and your Amalgamy is 9, then replace one of these with another {{IL|Helical Thighbone}}.

This recipe should reach Amalgamy 11, which will maximize the pay-out while keeping your {{IL|Bone Market Exhaustion}} at 4 levels, which will be cleared by Time, the Healer.

===Warped Warbler===

* {{IL|Skull in Coral|5 x|Appearance=Skulls in Coral}}: These involve a lot of Shapeling Arts challenges. which is the main hurdle for this recipe. Fortunately, each skull that is installed reduces the difficulty further.
* {{IL|Sabre-toothed Skull}}: You are wasting the {{IL|Skeleton: Antiquity|Short = y}} (and {{IL|Skeleton: Menace|Short = y}}), of course, but the value is what you want.
* {{IL|Bright Brass Skull}}: This would be good for increasing value while not increasing {{IL|Skeleton: Self-Evident Implausibility|Appearance=Implausibility}} too much that a high-level player character could not reliably handle it.

===Amalgamy Bomb===
This recipe uses the least number of actions to use up {{IL|Bone Market Exhaustion}} as efficiently as possible.

Roughly speaking, this recipe gives around 70 Echoes for every point of {{IL|Bone Market Exhaustion}}. Very efficient.

==Menace==
There are no legs that give menace, so most of these are birds with many skulls.

===Ancient Armoured Avian===
*Goal: {{IL|Skeleton: Menace|Short = y}} 13, {{IL|Skeleton: Antiquity|Short = y}} 3 (1 exhaustion)
*Zoomania: {{IL|Comprehensive Study of Avian Anatomies, Oneiric and Otherwise|Appearance = Bird}}

* {{IL|Skeleton with Seven Necks}}
* {{IL|Plated Skull|}}s: Stack these until {{IL|Skeleton: Menace|Short = y}} lands on 8 to 9.
* {{IL|Horned Skull}}: What to do next depends on the outcome of the roll to install this.
**If the roll to install the above succeeds, {{IL|Skeleton: Menace|Short = y}} should be 10 or 11.
***If it is 10, install another {{IL|Horned Skull|}}. If it is 11, continue to the next step.
* {{IL|Carved Ball of Stygian Ivory}}: Plug any remaining necks with these.
** Or perhaps swap one ball for a {{IL|Bright Brass Skull}} to increase the Value of the skeleton.
* {{IL|Wing of a Young Terror Bird|2 x}}s: This should bring {{IL|Skeleton: Antiquity|Short = y}} to 3.
**Alternatively, you can substitute 2 Plated Skulls for 2 Horned or 2 Sabre-Toothed ones, and install {{IL|Albatross Wing}}s instead. This is less predictable though.

This skeleton is to be sold to the {{IL|Sell to an Author of Gothic Tales (Skeleton)|Image=genericwoman1.png|Appearance=Author of Gothic Tales}}, thus giving a return of {{IL|Carved Ball of Stygian Ivory|39 x}} for 1 level of {{IL|Bone Market Exhaustion}}.

You can also replace the {{IL|Horned Skull}} or {{IL|Sabre-toothed Skull}} with a {{IL|Doubled Skull}} for more manageable increases of Menace. Of course, if you do this, the wings must be composed of a {{IL|Wing of a Young Terror Bird}} and an {{IL|Albatross Wing}}.

===Savage Sunfish===
You also want to sell this to the {{IL|Sell to a Rubbery Collector|Image=rubberyman2.png|Appearance=Rubbery Collector}}. The target is {{IL|Skeleton: Amalgamy|Short = y}} 5 and {{IL|Skeleton: Menace|Short = y}} 7.

A variant of this is the exhibition recipe, which shouldn't be sold at all, but is used in order to work the opportunity deck of the Upper River.

===Sainted Spider===

It should be [[Sell your Skeleton to the Sculptress|sold to the Bohemian Sculptress]] during spider week.

A high mithridacy will help both reducing {{IL|Skeleton: Self-Evident Implausibility}} as well as increasing {{IL|Skeleton: Support for a Counter-church Theology}}. You will end up at between 80 and 88 Support as well as 0-16 Implausibility. An estimate at {{IL|Mithridacy}} 10 give 84 support and 8 implausibility, giving a {{IL|Shadowy}} 400 challenge on the sale.
~10.5 Support and 14.37 {{e}} skeleton value (incl. Zoomania) equals 40.625 {{E}} value per {{IL|Holy Relic of the Thigh of Saint Fiacre|Appearance=relic}}. The resulting {{IL|Rumour of the Upper River|Appearance = rumours}} can be spent on {{IL|Prismatic Frame}}s for further skeletons.

== Trifling Diplomat Skeletons ==
These skeletons are made for sale to {{IL|The Trifling Diplomat}} in  {{IL|The Copper Quarter}}. While you can reach the diplomat soon after unlocking sailing you will need to unlock {{IL|Khan's Heart}} in order to use the {{IL|Assortment of Khaganian Coinage}} he pays you. This means these skeletons should only be used late game, as you will need to progress to {{IL|Balmoral}} before unlocking {{IL|Khan's Heart}}. The diplomat ignores zoological mania bonus, but once you unlock {{IL|Khan's Heart}} you can spend the coin for {{IL|Crackling Device}}s to sell at {{IL|The Rat Market (Area)}} for a substantial profit.

The diplomat requires {{IL|Bone Market Exhaustion}} but does not pay out especially well on exhaustion, so these skeletons are designed to sell without giving {{IL|Bone Market Exhaustion}}. Due to long travel time this is only advisable for skeletons with a high {{IL|Approximate Value of Your Skeleton in Pennies}}, and it should be combined with as many other profitable related actions as possible. {{IL|Piracy (Guide)}}, crates from the {{IL|The warehouses of the Peaceable & Godly Trading Company}}, and {{IL|Emetic Revelation}}s from weekly rewards for [[Khaganian Intrigue (Guide)|Khaganian Intrigue]], all help raise the echoes gained through Khanate trips.

The diplomat ignores {{IL|Skeleton: Self-Evident Implausibility}} making any sale guaranteed. This means some skeletons sold to him will be chimeras in weeks where he does not require specific type of skeleton. During weeks where the diplomat wants a specific quality such as {{IL|Skeleton: Antiquity}} the max the relevant attribute can be without accruing {{IL|Bone Market Exhaustion}} is 9. On other weeks he uses a sum of all three qualities and the sum must be 24 or less to avoid {{IL|Bone Market Exhaustion}}.

Avoid selling skeletons to the diplomat when {{IL|The Diplomat's Current Fascination}} is Spiders, Insects, or skeletons with numerous legs, as these options are unlikely to be very profitable.

=== Diplomatic Bird ===

===Brass Lollipop===
This skeleton allows you to easily transfer Echoes to {{IL|Bone Fragments}} or {{IL|Hinterland Scrip}}. This could be useful to get {{IL|Parabolan Orange-apple}}s for {{IL|Ivory Femur}}s in order to make high value skeletons with other skeleton recipes, or in order to get scrip to exchange for a {{IL|Sabre-toothed Skull}}, which adds the same value as a brass skull, but doesn't add implausibility. This could be useful when making skeletons with high implausibility like the sculpture above. It can also be done for building the station in {{IL|Ealing Gardens}}.

* Declare your finished skeleton a humanoid

You will want to focus on Implausibility and either Antiquity or Amalgamy. This is one of few ways for pre-Railway players to benefit from exhaustion.

Each failure reduces the skull's value by {{E}}2.50 but saves you {{E}}2 worth of Nevercold Brass.

If you cannot afford the {{IL|Weasel of Woe|Appearance=Woesel}}, you can approximate its effect with a {{IL|Talkative Rattus Faber}} and other Dangerous-reducing gear. Success on the check can actually be useful, once: it will gain you Whispered Hints instead of bone fragments, which should be sold to the Bazaar, so you can buy the Woesel, so you don't accidentally succeed again.
