I don't like a lot of what Failbetter does, but I'll always be in favor of developers being cheeky bastards with stuff like this. Personally, I kinda hope this Chekov's Gun never actually goes off, just to keep people guessing. Just keep teasing us about it, put flavor text here and there in an occasional ES that references it... well, I guess that could get old eventually. But before it actually goes off, they should definitely have at least one ES that references it, have a variant action you get if you have it, just to make people see it in the quality requirements and crap their pants thinking "Oh Salt, is this finally it?!"

Or something like that.
