I'm starting to realize that I didn't sum up the suggestion in question very well. Sorry, let's try again ._.
It's not so much about embedding repeatable sources of items for all kinds of situations, but about broadening the concept of "buying" items in certain cards and storylets if that is the only way of obtaining them.
Listing repeatable sources for the various items, ideally sorted by requirements, is something the separate item source category pages are better suited for in my opinion. These tables will grow very large for some items – just check Item Grinding (Guide) for the whole horror of what we're working on :) – but they're an authoritative list and wiki users should head towards them for questions like "at stats X, how do I get Y?" (at least that is how at some point in the very distant future it might work, heh).
Picking out just a few select sources, as you said, wouldn't work for all or most characters, so it's probably better to keep this information on the Sources pages to prevent inconsistencies and the likes.
There will be grey areas as soon as this keg is tapped (and found to contain powder), but right now I was thinking the higher-tier relicker items could be a good example of what would get this treatment, and basically anything that can be bought at the Bazaar an example of what would not.
Having written all this, I liked your idea about Unfinished Business a lot and would write up something to support it regardless. An example of how it might end up looking is at Fistful of Surface Currency right now: any feedback?
