I can confirm that if you have Parabola, it's possible without using any of Zailing, the Railroad, or the roof.

I went to the Boatman (note that dying to tigers in the Labyrinth only gives Wounds 5!) but I believe no menace areas or Parabolan Campaigns are even needed. Still, I'm weighing how much lore I want against getting into the coil sooner...
