That explanation mostly makes sense, but it does assume that you had a statue built of yourself when you looked weird, and since my character isn't at all weird and enjoys dressing smartly, it doesn't quite apply. If you saw someone wearing normal clothes you wouldn't find that bizarre, and if you saw that person countless times it wouldn't make it any less bizarre.
