if there's one productive thing the "ai art" bubble has ever done, it's demonstrate the latent horror in a statistical model that agglomerates, draws inferences from, and acts on data without actually *understanding* it. the kind of model which, if spoken to assertively, if given a rich enough context to exist within, will act accordingly, because that's what the data says it should do, no matter what it was doing prior. the hollow facsimiles of personhood, going through the motions because it's what the algorithm spits out, what the data says it should do, but with nothing actually behind the eyes.

there's a little bit of that "tell chatgpt that it is a fish, and it will blub for you" in the Gray Man. and it makes it all the more terrifying. i wonder how many fingers he has on each hand
