but really, there's a really palpable versimilitude to this sort of slow, plodding, piecemeal transformation into a greater and better-fitting self. the prosthetics that function as a temporary relief for all the things that haven't grown in properly yet. the timeline, where one can notice hints of changes but one still isn't quite where one wants to be; but also, the way one's endocrine system is the first to respond to these changes. and the gentle guidance through cultural experiences that one missed out on through the circumstances of one's birth.

also, the way the bargain provides both all the resources to pursue social transition immediately (while still leaving the option to don one's baggiest hoodie and humanmode) and all the resources to begin the process of pursuing physical transition feels really, really nice.

a wrinkle in the ointment that also feels all too real, though, is the exact way in which others go out of their way to pay lip service to the concept of respecting one's identity, and superficially go through the motions, while not actually putting in the work to be respectful in practice. the way one needs to go just as much out of one's way to get invited to the masters' conclaves as any other londoner is rather telling, and there's a lot of parallels i can draw to my own experiences.
