honestly, though, my read of the tower is a different third thing. discordant laws haven't been known to apply retroactively. so this is the world having run its course, entropy having inevitably, gradually overtaken all, and then the last two people in the universe, in the last place not in the universe, finally drawing the curtains closed on it. and it's dark, for sure, but it's also comforting. it gets Goodbye to a World stuck in my head.
