At some point during the unwise journey of {{IL|Seeking Mr Eaten's Name (Guide)#St_Erzulie's_Candle|Image=appallingsecret.png|Appearance=Seeking Mr Eaten's Name}}, you have a choice whether to embrace {{IL|Obscurity}} and part with a number of aspects of the game forever.

One might also choose to gain only a bit of {{IL|Obscurity}} - as much as one can handle.

This guide lists the consequences you will have to deal with as well as some workarounds.

The effects are permanent, there is no option to pay {{FontFate}} to undo any of them.

==No Marks==
* You lose any tattoos you could have had, including {{IL|A Private Tattoo of your Noman, Inscribed in Gant}}.
** {{IL|Bizarre}}, {{IL|Dreaded}}, {{IL|Respectable}} bonuses gained from tattoos '''remain'''.
* You cannot visit {{IL|Millicent's Parlour}} during the {{FontRose}} anymore.
** Getting new tattoos is therefore impossible.
** The option to pay 10 {{FontFate}} and [[Repeat the conversation? (10 FATE)|repeat the conversation with Lilac]] is inaccessible.

==No Nature==
* You lose your {{IL|Profession:|Appearance=Profession}} and {{IL|A Professional Specialisation:|Appearance=Professional Specialisation}} as well as the ability to regain them.
** [[Professional Activities (Guide)|The Business of (profession)]] storylets are locked.
** Since [[:Category:Tools of the Trade|profession-specific items]] are gone, you might find yourself lacking another point of [[BDR]] (which could possibly affect efficiency of {{IL|Khan's Heart|Appearance=Khaganian Intrigues}}, {{IL|The Bone Market|Appearance=Bone Market}}, {{IL|Your Cabinet Noir: The Back Room|Appearance=Cabinet Noir}}, {{IL|A Trade in Reputations}}), a bonus to an [[Advanced Skills (Guide)|advanced skill]] and a bonus to main attributes.
** No weekly [[A Professional Reward|professional reward]] will ever follow.
** You still receive {{IL|Professional Perk}}s with {{IL|Time, the Healer}}. While [[Use your Professional Perks|the weekly option to use them]] is locked, those are usable items in the inventory, so you still have [[Gain a Trade Secret|a source]] of {{IL|Trade Secret}}s.
** No [[An Unsigned Message|Unsigned Message]] will reach you. [[Await an Unsigned Letter|Forcing it]] will be impossible. If you relied on it [[A gift?|as a source]] of {{IL|A Surprise Package|Appearance=Surprise Packages}}, it is no more.
** Activities that were efficient or viable or possible with certain professions may cease to be such:
*** As a {{IL|Licentiate}}, you could always find a spare [[Supply a skeleton of your own|headless skeleton]] or [[Cap this with a victim's skull|a skull]]. The best you can do now is [[Explore the Folly]] to get one skeleton, which adds at least 1 action for each [[Hinterland_Scrip-Making#Licentiate_Bone_Market_grind|brass lollipop]] you make. The checkless 3.75 EPA skeletons are gone though.
*** As a {{IL|Licentiate}}, you could receive {{IL|Name Written in Gant|Appearance=gant letters}}, getting {{IL|Rostygold|500 x}} and {{IL|Shadowy}} & {{IL|Dangerous}} training and reducing the sender's {{IL|Suspicion}} & {{IL|Scandal}}.
*** As a {{IL|Correspondent}}, you [[Pursue truths through the Red Science|had]] [[Write a monograph on it...in it|additional]] [[Capture what you've learned|options]] to train {{IL|A Scholar of the Correspondence|Appearance=SotC}} and some unique options to [[Discover what is mandated|use it]]. Moreover, you could [[Compile notes on the Correspondence|help]] others train {{IL|A Scholar of the Correspondence|Appearance=SotC}} with {{IL|Flame-proof Missive}}s.
*** As a {{IL|Correspondent}}, you could [[Invite a Correspondent acquaintance to educate the orphans|be invited]] to an orphanage.
*** As a {{IL|Monster-Hunter}}, you [[Ram the lifeberg and claim a piece of it!|had]] [[Make a daring approach|additional]] [[Spear it with your harpoon|options]] for [[Reach for your harpoon; call for ramming speed!|various]] [[Wound the Parabolan Quarry|hunts]] and [[Go on a rat-catching expedition|incidents]], usually making them quicker and more rewarding.
*** As a {{IL|Crooked-Cross}}, you could [[Begin the meeting with a few words|confuse your board]] easily.
*** As a {{IL|Crooked-Cross}}, you could [[Invite a Crooked-Cross to address your Salon|be invited]] to a salon.
*** As a {{IL|Midnighter}}, you could [[Hint at one or two things you know|corrupt your board]] easily.
*** As a {{IL|Midnighter}}, you could [[Invite a Midnighter acquaintance to honour a tradition of St Joshua|be invited]] to an orphanage.

==No Name==
* You lose all your {{IL|Notability}}.
* {{IL|A visit from Slowcake's Amanuensis|Appearance=Slowcake's Amanuensis}} will never visit you again, even if [[Use your influence to invite Slowcake's Amanuensis for a visit|you ask nicely]], blocking the only common source of {{IL|Notability}}. However, a few less common sources requiring another player cooperating should work:
** Somebody {{IL|Acquainted With}} you can [[Recommend an unknown acquaintance]], giving you the first point of {{IL|Notability}}.
** Weddings with {{IL|Organising a Wedding|500+ x}} give {{IL|Notability|1 or 2 x}} to both participants. The optimal is [[A zee-wedding!]], which exchanges {{IL|Organising a Wedding|500 x}} for {{IL|Notability|1 x}}.
** One could [[Arrange for the Masters of the Bazaar to send a Christmas Card to an Acquaintance (50 FATE)]] to give you {{IL|Notability|1 x}} if you already had some. Expensive and irrational.
* Since the non-seasonal way to gain {{IL|St Destin's Candle}} is gone, the option to [[Enter the lighthouse.|enter a lighthouse]] on {{IL|Winking Isle}} is locked, fortunately.

==No Purpose==
