Another note on the Trimmed-category[edit]

Just to avoid misunderstandings: You might notice that I'm removing the trimmed-category again on pages where you set it. I do that after editing the history of the page such that only the trimmed version remains. After that, the trimmed-category is no longer necessary, so I'm removing it. Cheers!

Discrete qualities[edit]

By the way, the flag for linear qualities is Discrete, not Discreet. (Now, for hidden qualities...)

Ah, thanks. I was using the template and it has an entry for both discrete and discreet. English isn't my first language so I mixed up their meanings somehow :)

Pyramidal vs Discrete gains[edit]

Hello,

I've noticed you've been updating the templates/categories for quality gain and you've been prioritising visual consistency.

The issue is that it get confusing with categories. Unfortunately, for historical reasons that are hard to unwind now, this wiki treats discrete and non-discrete quality gain differently. "Gain" is meant to be for Pyramidal qualities that increase in CPs. "Sources" is meant to be for Discrete qualities that are increased in units of "1 x". This does leave some edge cases which often do cause confusion:

* What to do with qualities that are always *set* (but never actually increase or decrease as such). Historically these have been given "Gain" categories even though they never change in CPs. I've updated the Gain template so that it takes "Discrete" parameter, which would allow those qualities to be categorised as sources of a Discrete quality (as it doesn't make sense for them to be "Pyramidal"; they never increase in a pyramidal manner.)
* What to do with quality changes that display "An occurrence!" message. Historically, the templates that could display that message would give a "Gain" category, which is inconsistent with many of those qualities being discrete. This is a case where prioritising visual consistency messes with the underlying category structure. I am in the process of updating the Gain template so that it can display an "occurrence" message even for discrete qualities.

Hey, I actually asked Rahv7 about this because I was confused about the Increase/Gain and Discrete thing (among other things). See my message on his wall. To be clear, I'm not assigning any categories manually, I guess that's just an automatic result of using the templates. 

I have been using the template that makes things match visually with in game, so for CP gain that's Increase and for discrete level gains that is Gain. You're saying Gain is supposed to be CP gain, but then what is Increase? And what was actually the correct template for discrete quality gain?

I also noticed that some in game qualities that seem to internally be CP based are still only used at discrete levels, so this makes things confusing.

Rahv wasn't use why the Discrete flag was there for Gain. He said as long as the quality is set to Discrete, then any gains are also automatically treated as Discrete. If I understand you correctly that's not the case and they are automatically put into the Sources/Gains categories? I also noticed the "occurrence" thing, which is why I've used Increase in some cases where it doesn't fit mechanically.
