Yes, the part about the item template flagging items which have not been added to the table by adding the item page to a special maintenance category is certainly in the plans... :-)
By the "Cons" I've meant that for a less-careful editor, it would be easier to add things incorrectly to the tables than to add a line in the current pages. But most editors don't go that far, anyway. There are only a handful who update these things (same for adding images to the IL module's table).
