Category talk:Strange Catch

From Fallen London Wiki

First time I'm uh...making a talk page? I hope I didn't do anything wrong.[edit]

The theoretical maximum for Strange Catch should be 14.

First one would need a Strange Catch 10, and throw it back to start over with Running Battle... 5 (15 CP) and then one would need to get a streak of nine isolated coves in a row, for 9 x 10 CP. 15 + 90 = 105 CP which is just enough for level 14. Throwing back a level 14 catch would only give level 7 (28 CP) and 28 + 90 = 118 CP which is not enough to get to the 120 CPs needed for level 15.

Throwing back a level 12 catch to start out with level 6 (21 CP) would allow for one of the nine isolated coves to be a recalled tall zee-ztory (+5 CP) when going for level 14. (21 + 5 + 80 = 106 CP)

Level 13 is at 91 CP, so that's just out of range for anyone who doesn't start out with a previously thrown back catch.

Yep, that's what I figured, too. Max gain = 90CP, but 7->15 is 92 CP, so 15 is certainly impossible. 6->14 is 84 CP, so technically possible if you throw catches back and get incredibly lucky. And with two of us, our counting can't be wrong, probably :-)

Level 14 would be a small miracle to get, though: your chances of having the right run of options to get from 6 to 14 alone is something like 0.0005% (~10*0.2^9). Then there's the chance of getting a level 12 or 13 catch to start you out. I think not even the entire FL playerbase spending all of the next two weeks on fishing could give us a 1% chance of landing one. It'd be faster to just kidnap/bribe Chris/Alexis, and demand they tell us the sentence.
