==How to unlock==
You'll first need access to the Roof from the Firmament storyline, which will begin once you've reached {{IL|Involved in a Railway Venture}} 40. Once you're in [[Hallow's Throat]], you'll want to raise {{IL|Lung and Spleen}} to 2 to access [[The Arms]].

To unlock Ecdysis, you must ingratiate yourself to some smugglers in [[The Arms]], either with a {{IL|Persuasive}} 180 challenge if you have {{IL|Twilit Smuggler}} 10, or a {{IL|Persuasive}} 240 challenge and {{il|Stuiver|200 x}}. 

This will increase {{IL|Lung and Spleen}} and reward you a single {{il|Ascended Ambergris}}, after which the [[A proposition from the proprietress|Proprietress]] will forward you to the [[The Resculptor's Offer|Resculptor]]. Offer her the [[Ascended Ambergris|Ambergris]] and [[Accept the Resculptor's gift|Accept her gift]], she will introduce you to the process of Ecdysis. If you have somehow lost your [[Ascended Ambergris|Ambergris]] between these steps, another can be purchased at this time in [[The Arms]] for {{il|Stuiver|100 x}}.

This first round of the carousel acts as a tutorial and only allows the monetary reward "[[Emerge as a freshly-made self]]". You'll gain the {{IL|Discovered: Your Own Discarded Exuviae}} quality, allowing Boon rewards on subsequent rounds.

This process will increase your {{IL|Lung and Spleen}} to 8, from now on you'll be able to access the carousel via [[The Path to the Spleen]] in [[Hallow's Throat]].

==Progress==
The carousel has two main qualities: {{IL|Preparing for Ecdysis}} tracks your progress (21 CP to finish), while {{IL|Bodily Tendency}} determines which kind of rewards you can get. {{IL|Bodily Reshaping}} is a secondary quality that governs how the possible boons can be stacked.

At the end you'll be able to choose between two types of rewards: a Boon that lasts for roughly a week or a purely monetary reward.
*If you plan on cashing out, you can ignore {{IL|Bodily Tendency}} and {{IL|Bodily Reshaping}} and focus on finishing as fast as possible.
*However, if you want a certain boon, you need to pay close attention to which option will push {{IL|Bodily Tendency}} into the range needed for your boon. Your starting {{IL|Bodily Tendency}} is randomized, and the challenges are exceedingly high, so you might not be able to get the boon you wanted on your first try.

Starting from {{IL|Preparing for Ecdysis}} 2, the carousel is heavy on menaces, namely {{IL|Nightmares}} and {{IL|Wounds}}. [[Root yourself in place]] is the only safe option and is always available, but yields  1 less CP {{IL|Preparing for Ecdysis}} than the other options available on success, and always gives only 1 CP on failure. If your focus is on cashing out and/or finishing as quickly as possible, it might be worth taking the potential 4CP to each menace in exchange for finishing the carousel in only 9 actions (as opposed to 19 actions and no menaces). Do keep in mind the actions required to reduce your up to 8 CP in menaces per carousel run, you can expect to spend at least 2 additional actions on Aid requests, and if you run the carousel 3 times for the maximum {{IL|Bodily Reshaping}} (giving 24 CP in menaces), you can expect to spend at leat 4 actions if you take the best options for {{IL|Allow them to watch over your rest (sincere)|Appearance=Nightmares}} and {{IL|Drink the medicine they bring (sincere)|Appearance=Wounds}} aid requests unless you have a better or more profitable method to spend your actions on. Thus it might be for the best to mix in safe options instead of going purely menace free or all menaces.

Note that two of the resources gained ({{IL|Memory of a Much Stranger Self}} and {{IL|Tempestuous Tale}}) can be converted into the Roof-specific currency {{IL|Stuiver}}. If you do so, the carousel gains you {{S}}320 as well as {{e}}37.5 in other items, totaling {{e}}53.5.
