Converging influence

In the full dark, fashion is expressed [...] through [...] texture and sound: [...] rustling silks, clinking beads, tiny bells and chimes. [...] Perfume is officially despised as a Society affectation, but people wear scented oils under other names.

Description summary:
The second paragraph varies based on the City's Chosen Site.

Chosen SiteDescription
EalingThe scents of spice and ginger are common here, said to mingle well with amber.
EvenlodeThe most beloved scent is warm and soft and sweet, like burying one's face in the side of a housecat.
BalmoralThe most beloved scent is a haze of heather and smoke and wood, as though the wearer had spent the day in a distillery barrel.
Station VIIIA sharp vinegar scent is especially popular: not because it is pleasant, but because none of the smells of Station VIII ever resemble it.
BurrowNot a few people also carry an instrument with them when they are at leisure: something small and portable, a rattle or a pennywhistle if nothing better serves. But no one wants to hear the beat and be unable to answer.
Moulin/HurlersThe scent of old parchment is common here; likewise pipe smoke and leather. For a while it seemed there was a fad for essence of goat, but this only marked the actual presence of goat-demons.
MarigoldThe scent of violets is common here; so also sulphur.
