  • 04:54, 23 August 2024 GreenShrike talk contribs replied to a comment on the article Finish the study of your Highly Illegal Device (Per the Advanced Skills (Guide), relevant storylets are divided into three categories: those that can unlock, those that can train, and those that can both unlock and train. Many of the storylets for the early Parabola advanced skills (e.g. MA, GW, APoC, KT, Mithridacy) can be used to both unlock and train a skill, so it's quite convenient -- learn of a skill, and then just repeat the storylet to gain more CP. However, you won't be unlocking the skills before you get access to Parabola....)

It essentially involved getting 100% on the highest per-action quality gain (the quality being Applause there, and Confessions or Falsehoods here), getting Parabola Linen Scrap as a reward, and then selling it at the Rat Market. The math was (610 Applause/34 Applause/action) = ~18 actions, plus 1 to start and 1 to stop the carousel for 20 total. At the Rat Market you can get 825 Rat Shilling...)

You will put these things from your mind!. The challenge has low odds of success, but compensates with a high payout in CP reduction. Specifically, it's a luck-based 30% chance of success at getting you -10CP at a cost of 10 AS (i.e. 150 pence). Failure loses you 2 AS (30p). Thus, the expected result is -10CP *.3 = -3CP per action, with a cost of (10AS * 0.3) + (2AS* 0.7) = 4.4AS (66p) Gener...)

(I went from 131 +37CP in the first "Shadowy is increasing..." note to 133 +17CP in the second. This works out to an increase of 120CP, so I think the rewards got adjusted. Unfortunately, I didn't note what my Persuasive CP count was prior to the challenge, so I'm not certain how much Persuasive I gained. Is there any way to tell the exact number of CP for an attribute outside of hovering over the icons in a challenge rewards list?)
