Barristering at Evenlode (Guide)
Early Railway Content |
Once you reach The Magistracy of the Evenlode and you can Address the main usher and then Go to the courts. Watch some trials to get an idea of how they proceed, building up Time Spent in the Magistracy to 3. Then you may Intervene in a case in order to act as a barrister for the good citizens of the Neath.
General[edit]
A case is progressed over the course of six actions, and your options for each action are different at each point, and often dependent on the case you chose and sometimes options you took previously. You can intervene either on the defense or the prosecution, and each of these have different options.
- Choose a case
- Submitting Paperwork
- Opening Arguments
- Expounding on the Case
- Closing Arguments
- Awaiting the Verdict
Different options and certain cases may award Prestige of a Legal Case which both makes the final payout check more difficult and at the same time more rewarding, though getting this higher than 9 will result in no additional reward, despite the difficulty increase. Payout will also increase based on your Renown with the faction you're assisting.

Strategy[edit]
As a note, any prosecution when you can pick the Marigold Methods, if you have The Rose Giveth Its Verses to Devils and Also to You, choosing this and then Perform your closing argument in infernal dance will provide maximum prestige and give you 2 CP Making Waves. Under the same methods and on a non-Tomb-Colonist trial, if you have 12 A Scholar of the Correspondence, choosing Review the contract in light of your Scholarship will also provide 2 CP Making Waves along with the maximum prestige.

EPA Analysis[edit]
At a maximum EPA of 4.27 and some rather hefty Mithridacy requirements, this is not a money maker, but it is the best way to obtain Mirrorcatch Boxes and Mortification of a Great Power.
Maximising Making Waves[edit]
On the other hand, barristering is a quite effective method of gaining Making Waves. The primary source of this generation is the Grandstand! action available in the later stages of a trial, which (as mentioned above) grants Prestige x 3 CP of Making Waves per use. While this method requires either a Hallowmas companion or deep progression into a Hellish railway storyline, the effective CPPA gain is one of the highest grindable options in the game.
For the purposes of the entries below, a "required" skill level is the level needed to 100% all relevant checks. Note that in addition to the below, a Persuasive of 275 is required to 100% the Grandstand! check itself.
Society Matron Route (+21 CP MW)[edit]

- Await a verdict on Gondoliers v Society Matron (Defence) or Bribe the enraged Gondoliers with the sweet taste of retribution
Tomb Colonists[edit]
There are two methods using the Tomb Colonists route. The first is one CP more efficient but requires a particular railway charter; the second requires A Scholar of the Correspondence 12.
Charter Route (+21 CP MW)[edit]
Requires Mithridacy 15, A Player of Chess 12 or Watchful 275, a Charter of the Great Hellbound Railway 10 (Infernal Alliance), and either The Efficient Commissioner's Tale 1,000 or The Flower from Hell that Grows Under Your Skin
