Deeper Discordant Studies (Guide)

From Fallen London Wiki
This page contains information about the Deeper Discordant Studies, which are designated by FBG to require strict spoiler protection. Proceed below at your own risk.

As everything in this guide is considered spoilers for this content, each section is collapsed by default. Expand only what you want to see. This guide will be structured slightly differently than others given the fact that it is covered under deep spoiler policy. It will start off with where The Hurlers (Guide) ended. At this point you should have Discordant Studies 1 and Crystalline Knowledge 6.

Deepening Your Discordant Studies[edit]

Hint 1[edit]

First you will need to consult with someone who knows more about the Discordance.

Hint 2[edit]

This is someone that you have talked to before at The Hurlers. Make sure to bring some knowledge.

What Next?[edit]

Hint 1[edit]

The stewardess should have another topic now that should give you a hint on how to proceed.

Hint 2[edit]

You'll need to enter the Adulterine Castle multiple times through the same method as you first entered.

Answer[edit]

Makes sure that the Number That's Not In Your Head aligns with your current nightmares value. You can always raise your nightmares out On the Ice with Close your eyes . Then you should be able to Open your eyes and enter the castle, unlocking a seal.

What to do with what you found?[edit]

Hint 1[edit]

You should find something new in the Castle now.

Hint 2[edit]

You may have to move up or down in order to find it.

Answer[edit]

The seal is a storylet with a specific sacrifice and a difficult challenge. Completing it will open the seal, setting the seal's value to two.

From There?[edit]

Hint 1[edit]

Consider the seal number you found and what it might imply.

Hint 2[edit]

What values are possible when you miscount the stones? What values are possible with nightmares?

Answer[edit]

You'll want to miscount the stones for each of the seals 2-8 and then open the seal in the castle.

But What About...?[edit]

Hint 1[edit]

Have you unlocked all seals available to you? Surely there are more.

Hint 2[edit]

When you've learned enough, someone in the castle might have the answer.

Answer[edit]

Unlocking all of the upper seals (5-8) will grant a Memory of an Anchorhold which you can then use when you Approach the Anchoress to Meditate upon the Lower Principles and set the miscounting of the 2nd stone to 0. That will allow you to get the 1st seal.

Is there More?[edit]

Hint 1[edit]

Think about how you acquired the first seal.

Hint 2[edit]

When you've opened the first seal, someone in the castle might have the answer.

Answer[edit]

Unlocking all of the lower seals (1-4) will grant a Memory of an Anchorhold which you can then use when you Approach the Anchoress to Meditate upon the Upper Principles and set the miscounting of the 1st stone to 0. That will allow you to get the final seal. It is already open when you Open your eyes.

And Then?[edit]

Congratulations! You've finished all there is to become a full fledged Steward of the Discordance. Still should you ever want to go back to replay any of the seals, you can do so.

Analysis[edit]

Analysis of Things[edit]

Dont look at this unless you want major spoilers or you have completed your studies. If you have already completed the studies, use this as a reference with everything unspoilered.

Continue[edit]

This is analysis of the seals, or at least of ones that you might want to repeat in the future. All of them are good for lowering skills if that is required, but some of them are also beneficial, either by providing rare items or by simply being a good source of income.

The Eighth Seal

The Eight Seal will allow you to get the Immaterial Material which can be used for a new future in Irem or to get a Veils-Velvet Scrap. It is the only easy way to get the latter, for which otherwise you must donate a very many Certifiable Scrap to the proper relicker.

The Seventh Seal

The Seventh Seal is notable because it moves you to New Newgate Prison - again! without increasing your criminal record. This is much easier to achieve than failing to Rob the Brass Embassy.

The Fifth Seal

When combined with Rip out the words in the Cave of the Nadir, it is a very profitable grind, albeit one at the cost of Glasswork. The best way to do this is to save up a bulk of Discordant Souls and then, using a lot of glasswork equipment cash them out. The efficiency is somewhere between 6.63 and 11.40 EPA.

The First Seal

The First seal is the only way to get scream that's not stuck in your throat like a stone which may be of interest if you are collecting all of the T8 items. As this has been consumed in getting the Nonexistent Seal you would need to do it again if you wished to have one.
