This is a list of item sources accessible to early game (pre- PoSI) players. It primarily focuses on repeatable sources, though some conversions and Opportunity Card sources may be listed if there are insufficient grindable sources.

The Shuttered Palace and The Empress' Court

Spite area

• The Alleys of Spite: A set of Shadowy storylets that primarily yields Mysteries items (mainly Whispered Hints).
• The Crowds of Spite: Also known as the Pickpocket's Promenade; a carousel of Shadowy challenges yielding Pickpocket's Trophies that are exchanged at the end for a variety of prizes.
• Opportunism in Spite: An Airs-dependent opportunity storylet using Shadowy. The options yield a variety of 1–5p items.
• Working for the Widow: An Airs-dependent opportunity storylet using Shadowy. A good source of Jade and Connected: The Widow.

Veilgarden area

• The Singing Mandrake: A good source of Greyfields 1879 at low levels of Persuasive.

Wolfstack Docks

• The Battle of Wolfstack Docks: A Dangerous carousel that locks on completion. Until you play the ending storylet, the mid-carousel storylets (Strike! and, depending on your allegiances, A campaign of intimidation or Intercept a shipment of Clay Men) remain available for item-grinding. A good source of Glim in particular.
