2022-03: Major changes[edit]

This is a (hopefully monthly) thread to list major changes of public interest in wiki infrastructure that happened this month; for now, feel free to add major things you have noticed (or done!) and we will see what works or doesn't.

Not so good additions:

  • minor things related to one article ("I fixed a typo")
  • plans for things yet to happen
  • just dumping a whole user contributions log for the month

Good additions (non-exhaustive):

  • "The guide XY has been rewritten and updated for new grinds"
  • "Template Z now has a new parameter, which does the following: ..."
  • "Template A has been retired"
  • "We now have completely covered piece of content Aleph"
  • "Maintenance category Alpha is now empty for the first time in five years"

This is a test project, so let's see how it goes.

New data in Semantic MediaWiki in the past month-ish:

Just for clarification - is this for updates done in March or in February? Aximillio (talk) 18:27, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
I had intended it for March, but given that this is the first such thread, there is bound to be some spillover. I am fine with there also being a February thread. -- RagCall (talk) 20:38, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
A law is enacted...
The following changes regarding Category:Gain templates happened in the last two days:
  • all instances of the deprecated parameter to {{Gain}}, Discrete=yes, have been deleted from the wiki
  • all instances of {{Increase|...|now=...}} (which would evaluate to "An occurrence! Your '...' Quality is now ...!") have been replaced by {{Gain|...occurrence=...}}, which evaluates to the same.
  • as a test run, both {{Item Gain}} and {{Increase}} now are straightup aliases for {{Gain}}, with the perspective of completely deprecating them in the next few days, possibly, unless someone notices any errors. Existing instances will be replaced by {{Gain}}.

(Major) guide developments since early February by several people:

The calculator script (MediaWiki:Common.js/calc.js), which was originally an adaptation of the one used on Runescape Wiki, has been updated based on the recent RSWiki version.
Some of new features:
  • Previous form inputs are saved into localStorage
  • Autosubmission on input changes can be enabled (or be provided as an option to the user)
  • Module functions can be evaluated as well; not only templates
  • article inputs: specify an existing page with auto-completion
  • Inputs can be divided in groups
  • Inputs may enable/disable other inputs
See Fallen London Wiki:Calculators for documentation. Yestarhumeler (talk) 14:53, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
Infernal Grinding (Guide) now has a hell lot more information. Thanks @OuroborusInc! -- RagCall (talk) 12:24, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
I have added a table-container class to the CSS stylesheet. It should be used to wrap tables that are styled with the wikitable class so that they don't break on narrow viewports such as mobile screens.

An example can be seen on The_Rat_Market_(Guide)/Tables (diff)
Most of the wikitables have been wrapped and it doesn't seem to have broken anything, but please tell me if something odd happens.

As a note, tables using article-table don't need the wrap, those already behave (more-or-less) properly in every viewport. Storm (talk) 14:27, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
Nearly all non-retired Fate actions now have their effects listed. TFF (talk) 15:32, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
