Exceptional Stories and other Fate-locked content (Guide)

From Fallen London Wiki
Ladybonessmall.png Early MYN Content and Onwards

This guide exists to provide a summary of various FATE-locked content. Below you can find information on:

  1. Exceptional Stories;
  2. Other FATE-locked stories;
  3. FATE-locked choices.

The guide focuses on being a complete and informative list of FATE uses, not just the best ones. For the latter, you can refer to the latest survey.

Some of earlier Exceptional Stories were divided into seasons, each providing additional content upon completion of the three stories within one. More details can be found in Season Conclusions (Guide).

If you want to know more about the specifics of the guide, expand the subsections below. A detail of the rewards can be found at /Rewards Comparison

How to add choices and rewards?[edit]

  • For Exceptional Stories, fill the Reward summary parameter of the {{Fatestory}} template on their wiki page.
  • FATE stories...
    • ...which have their wiki pages: same as for ES.
    • ...which have no wiki pages (like parts of some Christmas investigations): use {{FateStorySummary}} in the "Other FATE-locked storylines" section.
  • FATE-locked actions:
    • If listing the immediate rewards is enough, add the rewards to the corresponding page and use {{FateActionSummaryAuto}} in the "FATE-locked choices" section.
    • If not, use {{FateStorySummary}} in the "FATE-locked choices" section.

What is to be mentioned?[edit]

  1. Mechanical rewards:
    • Can anything unique or rare be obtained?
      • This excludes the majority of T1-T6 items. Currently the only exceptions are items whose other repeatable sources are strictly seasonal or Hellworm-based.
      • Complete mechanical information is beyond the scope of this guide. Nevertheless, more specific guides in the manner of the Flute Street one are permitted.
    • What permanent activities or cards are unlocked?
    • Use {{Reward}} templates before the rewards you mention:
      • {{Reward|Always}} : a reward guaranteed to be received;
      • {{Reward|Ending}} : a reward acquired only by following specific choices;
      • {{Reward|Optional}} : a reward requiring additional preconditions to be acquired;
      • {{Reward|Unknown}} : a reward with unknown or unclear status.
  2. Tie-ins
    • The only unlisted qualities with unique content within the stories below are all Attributes and Menaces.
    • T1-T4 items are generally unlisted as well.
  3. Everything is subject to Fallen London Wiki:Content Policy. In particular, no FATE-locked narrative content is to be published here.
    • That said, it is fine to list circumspect guidance if the path to the reward isn't obvious when playing the story.

The Tale of Old Fritz (45 FATE)

  •  Spoiler

    "There is a tale of a whale who rose again. His ambergris all gant, and his bloated heart clogged with unnatural inks. And against all who would bid him die – the other beasts, the zailors and the very powers of the deep – he swore his vengeance."

    The Doomed Diver is haunted by nightmares of sinking ships, a graveyard beast rising from the deep, and a lady with a lantern who guides them inexorably to their end. Driven to desperation, they've taken to wandering London at night, seeking companions for a doomed mission: to hunt the fabled Old Fritz across the wide Unterzee. Uncover their tragic history with the beast, and their connection to the lost ship Incredulous. Follow monster and man under the waters, and into the lightless depths below.

The Laws of the Game (45 FATE)

  •  Spoiler

    “It ends with a goal. Who scored it, and how, are not important details. The part that gets spoken about afterwards is the rattle of the ball against the net, and that eternal second of silence before the roars start and the noise becomes an ocean.”

    The Ardent Regulator is a Ministry Official with a daunting task: cataloguing and codifying the definitive rules of the game of football. But no two teams play exactly the same game. Venderbight United have come equipped with mallets. One of the Lavender House players is wearing a bee costume. And why do the No Names Club wear masks?

  •  Spoiler

    There are elaborate books of protocol that describe how one should correctly interact with London's titled peers. They do not, however, contain any material on this.

    The Earl of Awry's Bridge Club has received an unusual challenge: a tournament aboard an airship, held against the sons and daughters of empire. It is the perfect opportunity to network, and to raise one's station in society – provided, of course, that nobody cheats. Keep a sharp eye on the card tables, and a sharper eye on the competitors.
