News format and content guideline →

What belongs here? Any major changes of public interest in wiki infrastructure. Not so good additions: minor things related to one article ("I fixed a typo", "ID") plans for things yet to happen Good additions (non-exhaustive): "The guide XY has been rewritten and updated for new grinds" "Template Z now has a new parameter, which does the following: ..." "Template/Property A has been created/retired" "We now have completely covered piece of content Aleph"

General format The list isn't updated once per week. Add changes any time! Anyone can add an update. Normally the contributors themselves would record it, but if you feel something's missing feel free to add it! Feel brave to add stuff! It's better to removes things later than to miss potentially important info! The sections use weekly breaks. Simple but informative. Brevity and clarity! It's not necessary to date the changes beyond the weekly section. Naming the contributor also isn't mandatory but is accepted (e.g. if you wish to thank somebody) Sub-headers Technical and Game-related should be self-explanatory. If you find something not fitting in either, don't hesitate to use a more fitting one!

Week of 2022-12-26

Technical

• New template: {{DaySuffix}} for which interprets the input as a day of the month and outputs the ordinal suffix (st, nd, rd or th).
• New template: {{RatMarketGrindTable}} for grinding guides.

Game-related

• Added Railway Station Developments (Guide), laying out costs and benefits of various station developments.
• Combed through the search to ensure orphaned guides made it onto the guide page.

Week of 2022-12-19

Technical

• New module: Module:ItemEffects, replacement for Module:Item.
  • Works around bug with SMW exclusions messing up on unique sortkey pages (see Forum:Semantic Search Bug), with ID exclusion. (So problems with BiS messages are fixed too)
  • Faster due to not relying on ItemList (uses more specialized queries insead of one massive).
  • Can handle multiple Moods with different stats in the same category.
• New template: {{Auto Inventory}} for automatic shop inventory!
• New template: {{InventoryRow}}, helper for Auto Inventory.

Game-related

• Money-Making/Sources adds non-weekly wellspring heists.

• New property and template: Property:Fate story referenced and {{FateStoryReference}} to record and set Mr Chimes' Lost & Found item references.

• For {{EquipmentTableLine}} fate cost is now optional, added slot as optional column, added ability to highlight by ID.
• New property: Property:Is Fate to mark FATE-locked content, currently only set for Items (preparation for effects rework).
• {{Autofire}} can now handle discardable cards.
• New module and property: Module:BDR to set Property:Total BDR for Items ({{Item}} updated), set for all items, so even if 0. (Preparation for effects rework.)
• New property: Property:Equipment status to differentiate special equipment such as moods. ({{Item}} updated.) Set to "Normal" by default. (Preparation for effects rework.)

Game-related

• Added an Equipment Guide, showing suggestions for which equipment to get at different stages of the game.
• Christmas (Guide) now features an Incarnadine Fur Robe section.
• Flute Street (Guide) gets more images! Fate-guides for the win!
• The Formula for Empyrean Redolence companions now show their opportunity cards.
• Ambition: Heart's Desire (Guide) get better rewards section.

Game-related

• The new Tutorial Prison content, starting at Unfairly imprisoned, has been recorded. (This content has been in the game for a while, but due to ongoing A/B testing was not included on the wiki per FBG's request.)
• New guide: Second Chances (Guide)
• Advent Calendar 2022 has started and is being recorded.
• Time Passing at Hunter's Keep (Guide) expanded.
• New reference table: The Noman/Noman Cost

• Skeletal Home Comforts are too powerful to still be contained by the boundaries of the main Guide for the Bone Market. They have been split out into their own subpage.
• {{World Qualities Box}} now shows current rat items.

• {{Variant table}} can now display parent specific effects if action results vary between parents. (See unique item actions at A Find Beneath the Streets for example.)

Week of 2022-10-31

Technical

• 2 new Gadgets: Users can now choose to disable the auto generated Guide links and banners for pages.
• It's now possible to make object only visible to specific user-groups using CSS classes. Available options are sysop-show, templateeditor-show, autoconfirmed-show and user-show.
  • Currently used to only display explanation link about banners to registered users.

Game-related

• Cold Shoulders replace Bitter Partings as a more-reversible way to thin one's deck. Past Bitter Partings can be undone with FATE. These actions have been recorded.

Week of 2022-10-24

Game-related

• Hallowmas. The return of The Demon (that comes when people call its name.)
• Making Your Name (Guide) has been expanded.

Technical

• New (accessible, dark-mode-compatible) table styles have been added, and applied to Professional Activities (Guide).

• World Quality History pages have been protected due to sheer size.

• Registered users may now react positively or negatively to top level comments through a voting system.

• The Business of a Crooked-Cross and the related content is recorded.
• Noman Tattoo (Guide) has been created.
• The Station VIII kitchen dishes are better linked, and a sweet new image is created as a reference.

Week of 2022-08-29

Technical

• Module:Airs Table's "show unaccounted" function now support a changeable minimum value (in additions to previous week's max value).

Game-related

• The wiki now maintains a page for external guides at Guides/External guides.
• The Assembling a Skeleton (Guide) and its subpages now sport a navigation bar.

Week of 2022-08-22

Technical

• Section heading sizes have been adjusted.
• New template: {{ExSpan}} for portable collapsible sections.
• Module:Airs Table's "show unaccounted" function has been adopted into {{Variant table}} for specific cases, like The Rewards of Ambition branches and, when enabled, will also add the maintenance category Category:Pages with missing variant text in case of missing text. The module can now also change the maximum limit from 100.
• The universal template {{Loss}} has moved closer to release (now documented) but some light testing is still underway.

Technical

• {{Action}}, {{Fate}} and {{Social Actions Auto}} now permit recording Button texts.

Game-related

• Obscurity (Guide) has been created.
• The new Fruits of the Zee content has been recorded and the old retired.
• Button texts have been recorded somewhat comprehensively.

Week of 2022-08-08

Technical

• In an effort to combat edit conflicts, the editing screen now shows if anyone else has opened the page within the last 10 minutes.
• {{e}}'s colour now behaves correctly in both light and dark themes.
• Math formula images are now rendered locally.
• New template: {{DiplomatWants}} to reduce repeated code on the bone-buyers page.

Game-related

• The Port Cecil content has been recorded, guide created.

Week of 2022-08-01

Technical

• Economy templates now display prices for all markets in which the item can be sold, and pull selling prices directly from item pages using {{SellsFor}}.
• {{Mod625Table}} is now better equipped for dark mode.
• Some mathematical formula images were uploaded to the wiki to circumvent their original source's unavailability in certain regions.
• {{Quality}} now only displays stat increasing/decreasing item links for attributes if at least one of those items exist in the respective category.

Game-related

• The conclusion of F.F. Gebrandt's Prelapsarian Exhibition was reached and recorded.
• Fallen London Posters can now be perused.
• The draft of the Ambition: Heart's Desire (Guide) has been (re)created.

Week of 2022-07-25

Technical

• Concept-based event banners were rolled out (was set up on staging for a week beforehand) using {{SMWBanners}} injected into all major game-content templates. (Also incorporates the Property:Is guide for functionality.)
  • Comes with a new property: Property:Adds restriction for,
  • and a new template to set it: {{RestrictionFor}} (meant to be used from Guide pages).
  • Has the ability to differentiate banners with a type making it possible to for example, set headers for non-seasonal but seasonal item-requiring actions.
• {{World Quality}} now has the ability to display percentage completed via the "Goal Value" parameter.
• New maintenance category: Category:Undefined Living Stories for {{Activate Living}} to mark undefined living stories for follow-up.
• The wiki's main page is now no-comment zone.

• F.F. Gebrandt's Prelapsarian Exhibition happened and was recorded. (With its own banner and font (F.F. Gebrandt's Prelapsarian Exhibition) templates)

Week of 2022-07-18

Technical

• New maintenance category: Category:Pages with missing variant text for {{Variant table}}s with missing effect fields.
• The Category:Templates rework continues with Category:Access information templates and Category:Currency templates
• {{Truncate}} now displays the character count on edit preview even if it's below 251 characters.
• New module: Module:Requirement, for better {{World Lock}} and {{World Unlock}} logic.

Game-related

• The Fallen London Timeline is completed. (Work of User:TFF)
• All non-Whitsun or Ambition-exclusive Lab variable text introduced with the rework has been accounted for.
• The Business of a Correspondent and the related content is recorded.

• The Category:Templates tree has been given a restructure and a few new categories such as Category:Preload templates, Category:Audience advisory templates, Category:Image license templates, Category:Game object templates, Category:Action-like templates and Category:Action templates

Game-related

• The Fallen London Timeline has been introduced.
• The second chapter of Evolution has been released and recorded.

Week of 2022-07-04

Technical

• Module:SCurve now supports an ending condition row for cases that depend on a quality and also increase it.
• {{Item}} receives a new parameter called "Origin", to record their event of origin (mainly for Summer festivals which occupy the same time-frame but share many items)

Game-related

• A significant dent has been made in the number of non-retired pages with missing change points (over a 50% reduction).
• {{Quality}} now also links reducing items for Attributes.
• A new wiki-wide item classification is introduced for "Summer event" items to unify past and future event taking up the same time-frame and sharing many items (Elections, GCO, future ones). Comes with its unique banner and font: SUMMER, and their collective page.

Week of 2022-06-27

Technical

• New template: {{Af}} for fancier linking of titles in text.
• A bug regarding the alternative Syntax highlighter on protected pages has been fixed.
• The various banners have been converted to use {{Banner}}
• {{IL}} now hardfails if no image is supplied (setting a dedicated maintenance category).
• {{Transaction}} will set certain vars (buycurrency/sellcurrency) regardless if an amount is set to avoid some SMW processing errors.

Game-related

• The content associated with The Business of a Monster-Hunter (the second T3 profession wheel) is fully recorded.
• The monthly exceptional story list now auto updates thanks to SMW Solutions™.
• The new Tools of the Trade inventory category has been introduced in accordance with the update.

Week of 2022-06-20

Technical

• {{GuideFor}} now uses '#' as separator to make it safe for all page names.
• Guide linking using {{GuideFor}} started using Concepts for better and more accurate links.
• New property: Property:Is Best in Slot, which stores best in slot message(s) for a given item, associated with their relevant quality Fields and {{Item Effects}} has been expanded to display this.
• New template: {{Banner}}, which is a meta template for generating festival banners.

Game-related

• The first chapter of Evolution (FL's next serial story) has been released and recorded.

Week of 2022-06-13

Game-related

• Parabolan Warfare Calculator released.
• All previously unrecorded FATE-locked actions have been recorded in accordance with the updated policy.
• New category: Category:Fate Story Items for Items exclusively from Exceptional/Fate stories, with the page Fate Story Items to sort them by uses and equip-ability.

Technical

• New tech docs to describe the way Lock and Unlock conditions are differentiated on the wiki, Fallen London Wiki:Lock and Unlock conditions
• {{Profession}} has been converted to the SMW ways. (An oversight.)
• Parameter "Guide" is retired from {{Template:Places}} as Guide links were moved to the Guide pages 3 weeks ago. (Remnants removed and moved.)

Week of 2022-06-06

Technical

• The new Inventory Catalogue page lets players easily compare their current collection against the list of possibilities.
• ItemList templates & modules updated in preparation for the new Tools of the Trade slot for Profession items.
• Actions and Storylets now store values of Unlock conditions via Property:Use value. What this means in practice is that not only can you query for e.g a list of what requires Souls, but also for list how many.
  • The stored values are simply the ones that were already on the page, with the exception of a default value of 1 if no amount was provided in the condition.
  • Because of the huge variability of possible values (numbers, ranges, formulas, ...), we are using text and the sorting is alphabetical - which, unforunately, means that 110 comes before 12.
  • Values are (not yet?) standarized, so querying specifically for an amount will likely have false negatives (a query for "1001-1200" won't find "1001 to 1200").
• Uses of Items and Qualities will now also show pages specifically locked with a quality, using Template:Lock. As with Unlock, you can also query for the amount.
• Fallen London Wiki:Updates and changes is now linked in the sidebar.
• The Rat Market (Guide) has been switched to using subpage templates, given concerns with Labeled Section Transclusion.

Week of 2022-05-30

Technical

• Actions within F2P content that cannot be seen without possessing their FATE-locked requirements can now be recorded on the wiki. See the forum post for details.
• New template (and Module): {{NextRatWeekend}}, which displays a short date range when the given Rat-Season will next (or currently) be in effect. Used on The Rat Market (Guide)/Tables/Selling.

Game-related

• Apis Meet (Guide) now exists

Week of 2022-05-23

Technical

• Major templates will now automatically add {{HasGuide}} for relevant guides. This is accomplished by setting Property:Is guide for on guide pages, which may be assisted by the {{GuideFor}} helper template.

Game-related

• The new non-lethal path for A Bad Case of Rattus Faber has been added.
• The content associated with The Business of a Silverer (the first of T3 profession wheels) is up. So is the guide.

Week of 2022-05-16

Technical

• {{Template:Item}} will now only create "See (item type) Grinding (Guide) for information on grinding this item." links when the selected guide actually contains information about the item. Achieved by setting Property:Has grind objective on the grind pages (preferably under the corresponding section heading for visibility).

Game-related

• Item Grinding (Guide) is now up to date; barring a bit of reformatting, it should only need updating when new content drops.
• A lot of guide links, beginning links, and conclusion links have been added where they were missing.
• We have (finally) found the formulas for pickpocketing targets in The Crowds of Spite (Guide) (although they're not included in the guide quite yet...)

Week of 2022-05-09

Technical

• New template: {{Whitsun Equipment}} - provides easy access to all unique items hatched from Whitsun eggs. Set by {{Item}}.
• University Laboratory (Guide)/Cards has had colours removed due to readability issues.

Game-related

• Whitsun is upon us, bringing forth Pelagic Eggs; their uses have been documented, including smashing them open for a new ribcage.

Week of 2022-05-02

Technical

• Item lists (e.g. Gloves) now display the tag WORLD QUALITY for World Quality Equipment, i.e. items whose availability is gated by a rotating world quality.

Game-related

• With FBG's permission, Discordant Studies - Costs and Rewards (Guide) now lists the mechanics of some optional repeatable content.
• Lifeberg hunts added. Big thanks to everyone who contributed reward data so that we could determine the scaling calculations.

Week of 2022-04-25

Technical

• Added total BDR to Template:ItemListByClass

Game-related

• House of Chimes (Guide) completed, barring new content being added.
• Prolific Advertiser now has the quality level descriptions listed up to 777 (thanks to the propaganda machine of User:Anakhi)

Week of 2022-04-18

Technical

• {{Retired}} now looks different if the new parameter (added last month) is used to clearly distinguish "soft-retired" pages with a currently or occasionally available version.
• All tracking categories in Category:Site maintenance now contain the magic keyword __EXPECTUNUSEDCATEGORY__. This ensures they don't appear in the maintenance list of empty categories when they are empty (as them being empty is the desired state, but they may get filled again in the future and should therefore not be deleted.)

Game-related

• Retired Seasonal pages now link to their Sacroboscan Calendar counterparts.
• Information about Settings is now recorded on the Wiki, and has been filled in for most game locations.
• First draft written of House of Chimes (Guide).

Week of 2022-04-11

Game-related

• A dozen new teasers for Exceptional Stories have been recorded.
• All Fate-locked spouses with opportunity cards now list the relevant mechanical effects.
• This week's Sacroboscan Calendar content has been recorded ( Remember the Opening of Arbor), Guide extended. That's likely all of the currently promised Calendar lineup.

Week of 2022-04-04

Technical

• New property: Property:Has setting which links to the page of the setting a place is located in. Set by {{Places}}.
• {{Item Gain}} and {{Increase}} hard deprecated and set to emit errors and maintenance categories
• {{Places}} has been modified so that locations within London link to the London deck, rather than location-specific decks, as that was confusing + slight modification to {{Deck}}
• {{Item}} no longer supports Unfinished Business functionality, because these sources have been superseded by sources on the item grinding guide a long time ago.

Game-related

• Sinning Jenny's Finishing School (Guide) is now (mostly) complete.
• Marriage (Guide) created
• Bessemer Steel Ingot (Guide) got a major rewrite.
• This week's Sacroboscan Calendar content has been recorded ( Remember the Election of 1898), Guide extended.

Week of 2022-03-28

Technical

• New template: {{World Quality Highlight}}, which highlights or emphasises text based on the current value of one or more World Qualities. Examples of its use in The Rat Market (Guide)/Tables.
• Property:Has Game Type now accepts "Exceptional Story" and "Fate Story" as valid values, so Property:Is Exceptional Story has been deprecated.
• Game content unlocked via textual values of world qualities now lists the current status using {{World Unlock}} (example). This affects actions unlocked with Direction of the Rat-Wind:, Phase of the Rat-Moon:, The Rat-Season: or The Diplomat's Current Fascination, among other things. Preparations for doing the same for numerical ranges are ongoing.
• The SMW concept Concept:Ambition: Heart's Desire! has been created, which encompasses all content accessed exclusively through pursuing Ambition: Heart's Desire!.

Game-related

• Guide created for Sinning Jenny's Finishing School (Guide) (incomplete).
• This week's Sacroboscan Calendar content has been recorded ( Remember the Election of 1897), Guide extended.
• Nearly all non-retired Fate actions now have their effects listed. (Mainly by User:TFF)
• On April Fools' Day the Duchess' old picture replaced every picture on the wiki (Forum:The Duchess...?), remains as a Gadget.

Week of 2022-03-21

Technical

• MediaWiki:Common.js/calc.js has been updated to a newer version. (Thanks Runescape wiki!) Documentation created at Fallen London Wiki:Calculators
• {{Property listing}} (SMW Solutions™) replaced {{Category tree}} on {{Item}}. Project of User:PSGarak.
• New template: {{Intercepted Document}}, which resolves a value of Intercepted Document to a description and shows it on mouse-over, similar to {{EO}}.
• Tables using class "wikitable" should now be wrapped in a div with class "table-container" for proper view on narrow viewports.
• New property: Property:Redirects to, which stores the page of the storylet where the player is redirected to after an action, if the behaviour is not default. Set by {{Redirect}}.
• New maintenance category: Category:Gain without new value or increase, created when fixing a bug in {{Gain}} in which the SMW property would not be added if no new value is indicated via 2, to, occurrence or now.

Game-related

• This week's Sacroboscan Calendar content has been recorded ( Remember the Election of 1896), Guide extended.
• Assembling a Skeleton (Guide)/Skeleton Types received a Torso to Skeleton Types table by User:Elderfleur.
• Infernal Grinding (Guide) now has a hell lot more information by User:OuroborusInc! (Also Influence Grinding (Guide))
• Effects of Fate-locked actions are still being added en masse. (Mainly by User:TFF)

Technical

• {{Property listing}} (SMW Solutions™) replaced {{Category tree}} and {{Property category}} replaced plain categories on {{Quality}}. Project of User:PSGarak.
• {{Transaction}} now tracks the gain/loss of items that are used as currency.
• New font template: {{FontLegacy}}, added to {{Font}} and {{Restrictions}}.
• New property: Property:Starts living story, which points to a page for the Living story that is activated by the current action.

Game-related

• Money-Making has been reworked and separated into sub-pages.
• New Guides: Certifiable Scraps (Guide) and Endgame (Guide).
• This week's Sacroboscan Calendar content has been recorded ( Remember or Return to the Mayorality of the Viscountess), Guide extended.

• All instances of the deprecated parameter to {{Gain}}, Discrete=yes, have been deleted from the wiki. (Yay!)
• {{Item Gain}} and {{Increase}} now redirect to {{Gain}} (in preparation for full replace).

Game-related

• Fallen London Wiki:IDs and Hidden Qualities has been expanded with instructions on hidden values.
• New docs: Fallen London Wiki:Extension
• Fascinating (Guide) has been expanded.
• The first person has acquired the Hellworm-Riding Boots with Brass Spurs (namely User:Alan), and thus discovered the further options.
• This week's Sacroboscan Calendar content has been recorded ( Remember or Return to the Mayorality of Virginia), Guide extended.
